Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, on Saturday, June 29, alleged that certain present and former government officials were intent on destabilizing the country. Speaking in Tana River County during a grassroots women empowerment program, Duale asserted that this was the reason peaceful protests organized by Gen Z had suddenly become chaotic.
Duale claimed that these leaders, some of whom he had previously worked with, aimed to resurrect the Mungiki sect to loot property and destroy key government infrastructure. He emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that the efforts of these officials were compromising national security and undermining the stability of the state.
" I have to say that we appreciate our young people when they raise critical concerns on the affairs of the State, " Duale said, referring to the Gen Z protests. " But there are colleagues I know, I have worked with some of them. They were in the former government, some are in this government. If you think you can bring Mungiki, we will not allow it. "
In a bid to reassure the public and maintain order, Duale announced that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) would support the National Police Service in maintaining security across the nation. He warned politicians against making inflammatory statements that could incite further chaos and unrest. Duale also called on young demonstrators to be vigilant, urging them to be cautious of criminals who might infiltrate their cause and exploit the protests for nefarious purposes, including committing murder, looting property, and setting government buildings ablaze.
