Soldiers nab bandits, gunrunners in Plateau, Kaduna

Troops of Operation Safe Haven in Plateau State have raided a forest occupied by bandits in Qaapan Local Government Area and arrested some bandits including arms couriers

It was learnt that during the operation which lasted for one week, the troops also recovered several weapons from the forest and the neighbouring Kaduna State.

The Spokesman for Operation Safe Haven, Samson Zhakom confirmed the development in a statement on Monday.

Zhakom said, “Troops of 3 Division/Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) have arrested notorious gun runners, bandits, arms couriers and recovered arms as well as ammunition in several intelligence-driven operations carried out in Plateau and Kaduna States within the last one week.

Ekiti begins free surgery outreach

The Ekiti State Government says is it offering free surgeries to residents across the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Oyebanji Filani, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

He said the free surgical mission was part of concerted efforts to improve the accessibility of residents to healthcare.

He said, “Enrollment of patients needing surgical intervention is currently ongoing at primary health care facilities in all wards across the state. Patients will, however, need to provide their National Identification Number and a passport photograph during enrollment for the programme.”

Minister meets Diaspora doctors, vows better environment

The Federal Government said it is focusing on creating a conducive environment where healthcare professionals can thrive, innovate, and make a lasting impact.

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Tunji Alausa, said this at a meeting with the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas in California.

Alausa, in a statement made available to our correspondent on Sunday, disclosed that Nigeria will host the ANPA conference in 2025.

The minister, who represented President Bola Tinubu said the government is determined to bring transformative changes to the health sector.

He said, “The new government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is steadfast in its resolve to bring about transformative changes within the healthcare sector. We understand that a robust healthcare system is fundamental to the nation’s development, and we are committed to implementing policies that ensure accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare for every Nigerian. Central to this vision is the invaluable role of our professionals in the diaspora, especially ANPA.

“Your expertise, knowledge, and experience are crucial in bridging the gaps and addressing the challenges that our healthcare system faces. We are keenly aware of the remarkable strides you have made in various specialities and the innovative solutions you have championed in your respective fields.
