The Ibeku Youth Association has called for the unconditional release of their kinsman, detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, from DSS custody. In a communique signed by the National President, Mr. Martins Chiedozie Nwosu, and the National Secretary, Mr. Chibuzor Onwukamuche, the group expressed their sadness over Kanu's prolonged detention, as reported by DAILY POST.

The statement, read to the press at Isieke, Ibeku ancestral home in Umuahia, also included a warning to social media influencer Reno Omokri against making further negative comments about Kanu, urging Ohanaeze Ndigbo to intervene.

The kinsmen cautioned against politicizing Kanu’s detention for personal gain, emphasizing that Kanu stood for truth, equity, and justice for the Igbo tribe and Eastern Nigeria, drawing a parallel to Nelson Mandela of South Africa. They attributed the high insecurity in Eastern Nigeria to Kanu's continued detention.

The Ibeku youths appealed to President Bola Tinubu to release Kanu, noting that Omoyele Sowore and Sunday Igboho, who faced similar charges, had been freed. They reminded President Tinubu that Sowore and Igboho were discharged from their charges by the Federal Government and urged him to extend the same gesture to Kanu.

“We remind our dear President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, that Messrs. Sowore, and Igboho, who were also charged with similar offences have all been released and discharged from the charges, by the Federal Government of Nigeria. Hence, we pray our dear President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to extend this same gesture to our brother- Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” it reads.

Additionally, the Ibeku youths appealed to Governor Alex Otti, Senator Austin Akobundu, and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu to join efforts in securing Kanu's release.
