Fire service CG demands enforcement powers to improve efficiency.

According to AbdulGaniyu Jaji, Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, the absence of enforcement authority makes it more difficult for his employees to do their constitutionally mandated tasks.

According to a report by Punch. Jaji clarified that the fire department has no control over potential fire threats or acts that impede firefighting efforts once they are brought to attention.

He continued by saying that the agency would be able to properly use its jurisdiction and prevent fire breakouts if it had enforcement capabilities.

On Monday, the CG gave a speech at the Abuja committee's inauguration for the research and development of the fire service training curriculum.

He said, “We need to strengthen our IIE, that is, Inspectorate, Investigation and Enforcement. Now, we need to have an enforcement that can bite."

Jaji also bemoaned the habit of erecting stores in market spaces meant for fire hydrants.
