€100m Arsenal target who rejected new contract offer

Journalist Duncan Castles has provided the latest update on a reported Arsenal target who rejected a new contract offer this summer.

Arsenal target Joao Neves is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after players in Europe. Having already made a significant impact at Benfica and shone during the Euros, Neves is catching the eye of several top clubs.

Among the admirers are Premier League giants Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United, all of whom have shown keen interest in the young star. With such a high demand, Neves is poised to have his pick of clubs this summer.

Journalist Duncan Castles recently highlighted a potential opportunity for English clubs to secure Neves, citing PSG’s reluctance to meet Benfica’s hefty asking price. Speaking on The Transfers Podcast, Castles provided an update on the situation and hinted at a possible opening for Arsenal and Manchester United.

“The problem, of course, is whether you can get him out of Benfica. He has a €120 million release clause in his contract, and the word from Portugal is it will take at least €100 million to sign him. My understanding is PSG don’t want to go that far. Neves recently rejected a new contract which would have doubled his salary.”

Arsenal, seeking a new midfielder to partner with Declan Rice, and Manchester United, looking to make significant signings under INEOS, are both in the market for Neves. With PSG potentially stepping back due to the high release clause, the path might be clearer for Premier League clubs
