The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has assured Nigerian workers that the National Assembly and the executive arm of government would work collaboratively to give them a living wage and better working conditions.

The Senate President declared that “No Nigerian worker will again be allowed to work under inhuman conditions. We will do everything to give you the best because you deserve the best.”

He made the declaration in a statement on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, to congratulate the workers as they commemorate the 2024 May Day.

Akpabio, in the message, extolled the sterling qualities that stood out to the Nigerian workers, saying “A Nigerian worker is noted for his patriotism, hard work, resilience, and dedication to duty.

“I am happy to be associated with the Nigerian workers in the last more than 25 years and I can attest to the fact that everywhere you go, the Nigerian worker’s spirit resonates profoundly.”

Speaking on this year’s theme for Workers’ Day, “Ensuring safety and health at work in a changing climate,” Akpabio promised that the National Assembly under his leadership was more than committed to ensuring the best working conditions for the Nigerian workers.

Separatist groups’ activities and the then administration’s inactions and wrong policy implementation affected the conduct of the 2006 National Population Census in Abia State.

The federal commissioner for National Population Commission for the state, Emma Eke stated this when he led the management team on a visit to the Abia State governor, Dr Alex Otti in the state.

He expressed the hope that the forthcoming Population and Housing Census will provide the chance for accurate representation and up-to-date information on the population and characteristics of the state.

“Census serves as a critical source of information on a population’s demographic, social, and economic characteristics which informs policy making, resource allocation, and development planning at various levels of government,” he said.

In his response, the governor agreed with his guests that population census is critically important for planning and development purposes, adding that its benefits cannot be overemphasized.

“I am happy that you have come to seek our collaboration. I am in complete agreement with you and anything we can do to partner with you,” Otti assured the team.

Some members of the Legacy Group of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo State have disassociated themselves from the call for the resignation of the deputy governor Marvellous Omobayo.

The call for Omobayo’s resignation as Governor Godwin Obaseki’s deputy after the impeachment of Comrade Philip Shaibu is allegedly being championed by another set of politicians led by Dan Orbih.

A leader of the Omobayo’s supporters in the group said those behind the call were “failed politicians.”

The leader who craved anonymity described the report by one Paul Dada as not only self-serving but fueled by political bitterness and jealousy.

One Paul Dada who in a publication in some social media platforms claimed to represent the Legacy Group faction of the PDP, had called for the resignation of Omobayo.

He said, “The call by a faceless and attention seeking Paul Dada who purportedly represents the Legacy Group faction of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo North, led by Chief Dan Orbih and reported the decision of the group in various social media platforms calling for the removal of the newly inaugurated digital Deputy Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Marvellous Omobayo was a joke taken too far.
