Shehu Sani Reacts as Dave Umahi Terminates the Contract for Enugu-Port Harcourt Road Contract

A former federal lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani, took to Twitter, criticising the common practice of Nigerian road contractors delaying their work to prompt a cost review that increases the project's budget to "more billions.".

Senator Sani made the comment after Dave Umahi, the Minister of Works, announced that he had terminated the contract for the Enugu-Port Harcourt motorway after the contractor failed to meet the 14-day deadline for completing the project.

Sani stated that with Umahi as Minister, the contractor attracted termination instead of a cost review, a welcome change from the usual tactics. He implied that Umahi's decisive action in terminating the contract sends a strong message that the government will not tolerate delays and inflated costs from contractors.

Shehu Sani's post on the X platform reads, "Nigerian road contractors have a habit of delaying their jobs in order to prompt a review that will jerk up the cost of the project to more billions. With Umahi, they attracted termination instead of review."
