Omoyele Sowore, a prominent Nigerian activist and former African Action Congress (AAC) candidate in the 2023 presidential election, recently criticized the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for proposing a mere 25% increase to the existing N30,000 minimum wage in Nigeria. In a statement shared on his official social media handle, Sowore expressed doubt about the feasibility of surviving on the current minimum wage, given the economic challenges facing the country.

Sowore pointedly accused President Tinubu's administration of implementing policies that exacerbate the hardships faced by Nigerians. He highlighted the removal of fuel subsidies, increases in energy tariffs, and rising school fees as factors contributing to the deteriorating economic conditions in Nigeria.

With a tone of condemnation, Sowore described the proposed 25% increase to the minimum wage as a mere illusion, describing it as a "total abracadabra" orchestrated by Tinubu and his associates. He questioned the practicality of surviving on such wages in the current economic climate, emphasizing the disconnect between policy decisions and the lived experiences of Nigerians.

Sowore criticized the economic policies of the Tinubu administration, alleging that they have further exacerbated the economic challenges faced by ordinary citizens. He accused the government of neglecting the welfare of the people while simultaneously implementing measures that worsen their plight.

Hear him: "Just to add 25% to the N30,000 per month minimum wage, Tinubu and his people began a total abracadabra called “Salary Structure". Who can survive on these minimum wages in Nigeria today? When Tinubu had already removed fuel subsidies, increased energy tariffs and school fees ruined the Naira and brought untold hardship to Nigeria. While at it, they are waning maximum wages".
