Segun Showunmi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recently responded on social media to reports that Nigeria has signed a $150 billion Samoa agreement recognizing the LGBT community in the country.

In his reaction on his official X account, Showunmi questioned the motives of the Western world, suggesting that they are more interested in financial gain than in the societal implications of the agreement.

Showunmi expressed skepticism about the true intentions behind the Samoa deal, implying that the signatories were mainly attracted by the monetary benefits.

He challenged the idea that accepting the funds from the Samoa protocol would compel Nigerians to embrace LGBT practices, stating, "If we take money that is in the Samoa protocol, how would anyone force you to become LGBT if you are not interested."

He called for Africa to become more strategic and savvy in international dealings, emphasizing the importance of capitalizing on opportunities without compromising cultural values.

Showunmi noted that societal evolution is inevitable and each generation must adapt, urging Africans to mature in their engagements and accept any financial aid offered to them.

Acknowledging the complexity of regulating LGBT tendencies through legislation, Showunmi argued that Africa cannot afford to be perpetually fearful or naive.

He expressed confusion over the Western agenda, which he perceives as an effort to undermine traditional values, but he also suggested pragmatically, "take the banana and throw away the peel" when it comes to accepting money.

Showunmi's response highlights his view that Africa should intelligently navigate international agreements, taking advantage of financial opportunities while maintaining its cultural integrity.
