Shehu Sani, a former Senator who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, has urged President Bola Tinubu to avoid repeating the errors of his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.

According to a report by Punch on Monday, July 1, 2024, the former lawmaker criticized Buhari's eight-year administration, highlighting issues of nepotism and incompetence, especially in governance, security, and economic policies.

He made this known during an appearance on Channels Television’s "Politics Today" on Sunday. During the interview, Shehu Sani advised President Tinubu to avoid the pitfalls of the previous administration.

He noted that Buhari's tenure was marked by stagnant ministerial appointments without reshuffles, leading to inefficiencies.

He pointed out that under Buhari, ministers often remained in their positions for the entire duration of his two terms, with replacements taking several months when they were made.

Shehu Sani also criticized the retention of service chiefs despite their failures, which he said hindered the careers of capable officers. He emphasized the need for appointments based on competency to drive the country forward.

"I will advise President Tinubu to be careful not to make the mistakes of President Buhari, and I believe he is experienced to understand this. Under President Buhari, you have ministers who were appointed into office for the whole of eight years.

"They were with him for the first tenure and the second tenure, and there was no cabinet reshuffle, no removal. Even if there was a removal, it takes three to four months to replace a minister. That was the way the country was governed. Under Buhari, we have seen nepotism at its peak where people were appointed into office and left there even if they did nothing," he said.
