At the maiden Prof Emeka Umerah's public lecture in Abuja, themed "Nigeria Yesterday, Today and a Prosperous Future," Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former Governor of Edo State, called for severe measures against those hindering the operations of the Dangote Refinery. He proposed capital punishment for those he accused of frustrating the refinery's progress and exacerbating Nigeria's economic hardship.

According to Daily Trust, Oshiomhole expressed deep concern that despite the nation's celebration of the Dangote Refinery, Nigeria's crude oil continues to be exported while the refinery is denied necessary allocations. He characterized this situation as a deliberate effort to undermine the refinery and inflict suffering on Nigerians.

In his words, "Those guys deserve to be hanged. If we don't hang them, they will hang all of us. What it takes to hang them will require a president with extraordinary courage."

He asserted that if such individuals are not held accountable, they will continue to cause widespread suffering. Oshiomhole emphasized that addressing this issue requires a president with extraordinary courage.

In his speech, Oshiomhole also praised President Bola Tinubu for his bold leadership and vision. He acknowledged that Tinubu's reforms might bring temporary pain but are essential for long-term progress. This commendation underscores the importance of courageous leadership in navigating Nigeria through its current challenges.

The Senate is currently reviewing the contentious aspects of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) to tackle the issues highlighted by Oshiomhole. This legislative review aims to resolve the obstacles faced by the Dangote Refinery and address broader economic challenges.
