(Courtesy)An Israeli soldier was killed and another seriously wounded this morning by a roadside bomb in the Nur Shams refugee camp in the West Bank, according to the military. The fallen soldier was identified as Sgt. First Class (res.) Yehuda Geto, a 22-year-old combat driver from Pardes Hanna-Karkur.

The incident occurred when a Panther armored personnel carrier (APC) transporting the soldiers was struck by the explosive device. Geto was driving the APC, and the wounded soldier, a commander in the Duvdevan commando unit, was also on board. The initial IDF investigation revealed that the vehicle was stationed in a supposedly safe area, unaware of any planted explosives. Other Duvdevan soldiers had disembarked to conduct an on-foot operation when the bomb detonated, disabling the APC.

The bomb, believed to be an improvised device containing dozens of kilograms of explosive material, caused significant damage. The IDF later extracted the APC from Nur Shams. During the extraction, the IDF attempted a drone strike on nearby gunmen, but the missile malfunctioned and did not explode.

Later, several gunmen tampered with the missile, leading to its detonation and killing a nearby Palestinian woman. Separately, Duvdevan troops shot and killed a Palestinian gunman who attempted to fire on the forces.

The Palestinian Authority's health ministry reported two fatalities in Nur Shams: a woman and a child. This tragic event follows a similar attack in the Jenin area days earlier, where a soldier was killed, and 16 others were injured by bombs detonated by Palestinian Islamic Jihad operatives during a raid.
