Former Portugal attacker Ricardo Quaresma has expressed his belief that Cristiano Ronaldo should start every game for the national team, questioning who could possibly replace him in the lineup, according to Sportskeeda. Quaresma, who played alongside Ronaldo for Portugal, emphasized the respect and fear that Ronaldo commands on the pitch, stating that his presence alone makes opponents uneasy.

Quaresma told Portuguese outlet Renascenca, “For me, and I don’t say this because I’m a friend of his, I say this as a fan: he has to play. Because, if you take Cristiano Ronaldo out, who are you going to put in?” He continued, “They are good players, but the respect is different when you go in with Cristiano. He may not have one day, but just because he’s there saying number seven and Ronaldo, the respect is already different. The opponent is already a little shaky, because at the slightest mistake, he finishes.”

Quaresma’s comments come as Portugal continues their campaign at Euro 2024, with Ronaldo leading the team to two wins in their opening fixtures. Despite not scoring in either game, Ronaldo has provided an assist and remains a potent threat leading the line for the Selecao.

Ronaldo’s iconic status in Portuguese football history is undeniable, with a record 209 appearances and 130 goals for the national team. His experience and skill make him a vital asset to the team, and Quaresma believes he should start every game.

While some may argue that younger players like Diogo Jota and Goncalo Ramos deserve more playing time, Quaresma believes that Ronaldo’s presence is unmatched. “It doesn’t mean he has to play the full 90 minutes, but he has to come on from the start,” Quaresma added.
