In a candid interview with Channels Television's Politics Today, Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), expressed his frustration and disappointment with the government's lack of urgency in implementing a new minimum wage.

Despite the expiration of the current wage structure on April 18th and the accumulated debts owed to workers for April, May, and June, President Bola Tinubu seemed nonchalant about the issue.

Ajaero stressed that the NLC is committed to fighting for workers' rights and ensuring that their struggles are understood and addressed. He criticized the President's casual attitude, stating that it shows a lack of empathy and understanding of the financial hardships faced by Nigerian workers.

The rising cost of living has taken a toll on workers, making it essential to increase the minimum wage to ensure their survival.

The NLC has been engaging in ongoing discussions with the government to find a fair and suitable solution for the new wage structure. Ajaero emphasized that time is of the essence, as workers cannot continue to bear the burden of delayed wages. He expressed hope that once these talks conclude, there will be no further obstacles to implementing a new minimum wage.

The NLC President reassured workers that they are dedicated to their cause and will persist until their demands are met. He urged all workers to remain united and steadfast in their pursuit of justice, emphasizing that collective action is crucial in achieving change.
