Martha Karua has challenged the kind of dialogue President William Ruto is promising to Generation Z and at the same time arresting people and not releasing all those detained for exercising their right to protest. Karua bluntly realises on the seeming absurdity as to why Ruto wants to be associated with constructive dialogue with the youths while at the same time violating civil liberties.She points out that all the current discussions should be based on the respect of the constitutional rights in the country.
Karua’s criticism is an indication of other paradoxes in the government concerning the compliance of certain principles of democracy and the respect of the rule of law. By bringing this up, she demands answers and explanations from the administration about the actions it implements as well as promotes that real dialogue cannot be combined with oppression.
Her words put me in mind of the youthful generation of citizens, which is struggling for justice, rights and freedoms of democracy, urging the government to act according to its proclamation.
