(PHOTOS): 97 women, 53 men stranded in Republic of Chad flown back to Nigeria

A total of 150 Nigerians comprising 97 women and 53 men who had been stranded in the Republic of Chad for some time have been flown back to Nigeria, it was gathered on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), which announced the development on its X handle on Wednesday, disclosed that they arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos State, on Tuesday afternoon.

According to NEMA, the 150 returnees were found to have been stranded and vulnerable. Following the discovery, the organization, in conjunction with other stakeholders, organized their repatriation back to Nigeria.

NEMA wrote: "The returnees arrived Murtala Muhammed Airport, Cargo Terminal, at about 2:30 p.m. aboard Air Cairo with the registration no SU-BUT. The chartered flight had a total number of 150 returnees on board. They comprised 53 male, 97 female."

The agency added that the returnees were offered necessary assistance at the airport by various organizations including the International Organization for Migration (IOM), National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Nigeria Immigration Service, Department of State Service (DSS), Port Health and Nigeria Police Force.

It will be recalled that on May 14, 2024, Nigerians comprising 23 men, 48 women, 71 children and eight infants were flown back from the same Republic of Chad to Nigeria aboard a chartered flight after they were found stranded and distressed.
