According to Vanguard, The Nigerian Senate approved the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) bill. This milestone followed a review of the report from the Senate's Committee on Special Duties, which was delivered by its chairman, Senator Kaka Shehu.

The bill, championed by Senator Abba Moro of the Benue South Senatorial District, received overwhelming support. All senators from the North Central region co-sponsored the legislation, demonstrating strong regional unity.

First introduced on October 5, 2023, the NCDC bill successfully passed its second reading on February 21, 2024. Senator Moro expressed his appreciation for the bipartisan backing the bill received. He emphasized the critical need for the commission, pointing out the significant developmental challenges faced by the North Central region.

The primary goal of the NCDC is to emulate the achievements of other regional development commissions. It seeks to tackle poverty, infrastructure deficits, and various social challenges. By addressing these problems, the commission aims to foster regional growth and development.

The bill is set to move to the House of Representatives for concurrence. If it passes there, it will await the President's signature to become law.
