$500m Lost to Internet Fraud in 2022 – EFCC Chair

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, revealed that Nigeria lost over $500 million to internet fraud in 2022. This significant financial loss led to the shutdown of operations for 71 international companies in Nigeria. Olukoyede emphasized the negative impact of such crimes on Nigeria’s economy and international reputation. He vowed to address all forms of economic and financial crimes under his leadership.

Tinubu Unveils Economic Council

President Bola Tinubu inaugurated a 31-member Presidential Economic Coordination Council, including top government officials and private sector leaders. The Council, aimed at economic stabilization, plans to inject N2tn into sectors like health, agriculture, and energy. This initiative seeks to address economic challenges and improve governance.

Truck kills conductor on Nteje-Awka-Onitsha Expressway

A commercial vehicle conductor died in a road accident on the Nteje-Awka-Onitsha Expressway. The accident, involving a Mercedes Actros truck, occurred due to a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control. The incident, confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps, involved two male adults; one was injured, and the other, the conductor, was killed. The deceased was taken to the morgue, and traffic control measures are ongoing. The Sector Commander urged motorists to check their tyres and carry spare ones.

FG signs 1,265 megawatts renewable energy agreement

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) signed an agreement with five private developers to deliver 1,265 megawatts of renewable energy across Nigeria. The initiative aims to electrify rural and peri-urban areas, fostering economic growth and better living standards. Developers involved are A4&T Power Solutions, Eauxwell Nigeria Limited, Skipper Nigeria Limited, Havenhill Synergy Limited, and Privida Power. The REA's partnership also includes a collaboration with Mercy Corps to strengthen electricity cooperatives and ensure project sustainability. This aligns with Nigeria's goals to enhance renewable energy access and reduce energy poverty.
