According to a report by Sahara Reporters, Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, has asserted that the Nigerian government's efforts have led to a substantial decrease in deaths resulting from violent crimes and the use of arms, citing a remarkable reduction of over 90%. Ribadu attributed this decline to the increasing cost of firearms, particularly AK-47 rifles, making them unaffordable for terrorists.

Speaking at the High-Level African Counter-Terrorism Meeting in Abuja, Ribadu highlighted the challenges terrorists face due to the soaring prices of AK-47 rifles, which have surged from less than N1 million to over N5 million within a year. He emphasized the government's success in seizing and destroying these weapons, contributing to their scarcity in the country.

He said, “A lot of difference is taking place in Nigeria. That is why I can assure you that in the last one year, we have reduced deaths as a result of violent crimes and the use of arms by over 90%.

Ribadu applauded the concerted efforts of Nigeria's armed forces, security forces, and governors in combating terrorism and violent crimes. He noted that while the progress may not always be visible to the public, substantial work is ongoing behind the scenes to enhance national security and safeguard citizens.

The significant reduction in terrorism-related deaths, from an average of 2,600 per month to less than 200, reflects the effectiveness of the government's strategies in curbing violent crimes and arms proliferation. Ribadu's remarks highlight the government's commitment to addressing security challenges and fostering a safer environment for all Nigerians.
