Hon. Abdul Malik Zubairu Bungudu, a member of the federal House of Representatives in Zamfara State, has sponsored the mass wedding of 105 couples in his constituency.
The event, which took place in Bungudu Town on Saturday, was aimed at supporting families affected by banditry in the state.
According to the report by Nigerian Tribune on Saturday, the lawmaker who represents the Bungudu/Maru federal constituency provided essential household items to the brides, mostly daughters of victims of banditry.
Some of the household items that were given to the brides included mattresses, wardrobes, beds, bed sheets, pillows, among others.
Each couple received a dowry of one hundred thousand naira, and the grooms were given an additional one hundred thousand naira.
The brides also received fifty thousand naira to start their own businesses.
Hon. Abdul Malik Zubairu expressed his fulfilment in sponsoring the weddings, and stressed his commitment to supporting families affected by banditry.
He said, "Today, Saturday, I am fulfilling one of my promises by sponsoring 105 brides for marriages to their suitors. Most of the brides' parents were killed as a result of banditry in the state."
The chairman of the occasion, Hon. Kawu Sumaila, praised the lawmaker's compassionate gesture and urged the constituents to appreciate and pray for his effective representation.
Hon. Kawu Sumaila also advised the newly married couples to be patient with each other, adding that marriage is part of Ibadat (faith).
Supporting the occasion, Sumaila donated twenty thousand naira to each couple.
