The death of the Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla is no doubt going to have far reaching implications in the military with President William Ruto expected to make major shakeup in the KDF.

General Ogolla who was from the Kenya Air Force, perished in a tragic helicopter crash on Thursday, April 18, 2024 in Elgeyo Marakwet. He died alongside his nine othe colleagues.

With Kenyans eagerly waiting for the Head of State to appoint General Ogolla's successor, the current Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lieutenant General Charles Kahariri is tipped to be the next CDF.

In line with the much revered Tonje Rules, at no particular time should the CDF and his vice be from the same unit.

If Lt General Kahariri is picked as the next CDF, then his Vice is most likely going to be from the Kenya Army with the unit commander Lieutenant General David Kimaiyo Tarus tipped to rise to the position of Vice CDF.

Should this happen, then President Ruto will have to appoint the new Kenya Army Commander. And who will this be?

The current Border Security commanding officers, Major General John Nkoimo, could be the next Kenya Army chief.

Boasting 33 years of military, Major General Nkoimo who is from the Special Operations Regiment of the Kenya Army is experienced enough to lead the unit.

Prior to his appointment as Border Security Commanding Officer, Major General Nkoimo served as the Kenya Military Academy Commandant. Previously, he served as the Commandant, Joint Staff and Command College.
