Former President Olusegun Obasanjo clarified that the issue of releasing Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was not addressed during his recent meeting with South-East Governors. The meeting, held in Enugu on Tuesday, focused on regional development matters, as reported by Daily Trust.

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo, who chairs the South-East Governors’ Forum, revealed that following their gathering in Enugu, the governors resolved to approach President Bola Tinubu to advocate for Kanu's release. The governors present included Hope Uzodinma (Imo), Alex Otti (Abia), Chukwuma Soludo (Anambra), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), and Peter Mbah (Enugu).

During the session, Obasanjo and elder statesman Chief Emeka Anyaoku joined the governors at their invitation to deliberate on security, infrastructure, economic, and cooperative collaboration issues. These discussions were aimed at bolstering national economic development initiatives.

In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Wednesday, Obasanjo underscored that Kanu's situation was not on the agenda and was not discussed in his presence.

“The meeting with them (South-East Governors) was at my invitation and of Chief Emeka Anyaoku before their summit begins. The issue of Nnamdi Kanu was not on the agenda and was not discussed in my presence,” Obasanjo clarified.
