Hundreds of Kenyans turned up in large numbers in Ongata Rongai where 12-year-old boy Kennedy Onyango was being laid to rest after being shot by police officers during the anti-government protests that rocked the country in the previous week.

In a video that has gone viral on different social media platforms, angry mourners could be seen chanting different anti-government songs while escorting the body of the departed Kennedy Onyango. The crowd could also been seen screaming in pain as they navigated the busy streets of Rongai.

This comes as the total number of those who were killed during the anti finance bill protests as well as the anti-government protests hit 39. Hundreds are still recovering in different hospital across the country as leaders and Kenyans continue to send their apologies to the families who lost their loved ones in protests.

While addressing the media on Sunday, President William Samoei Ruto sympathized with those who lost their lives during the anti-government protests. The head of state said that goons were hired to infiltrate the peaceful protests that were organized by the Gen Z and millennials.

He also praised the security agencies for containing the situation, saying that if the police did not intervene, many lives could have been lost during the anti-government protests. He also slammed those who stormed into the National Assembly, saying they will be arrested.

The head of state further promised to engage with the youths to address all the issues that they raised. Ruto said he is ready to speak with the young generation via X platform.
