The severity of the political crisis in Rivers State was emphasised by Cletus Obun, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, in an interview with Arise News. Obun issued a warning, stating that the House of Assembly would not be able to convene if it were decided that the 27 members had forfeited their seats.
He clarified that a quorum must consist of at least one-third of the members, which in this instance would be nine. Obun issued a warning that Rivers State would enter a constitutional crisis in the absence of a functioning Assembly, escalating the already elevated political tensions.
According to him;
"Those three members can not even sit if you disagree with them. That is what happens. It denotes that Rivers State does not have an assembly. What we ought to have right now, then. There would be two outcomes. Saying that the 27 members have forfeited their seats indicates that there is no assembly, as a quorum of one-third of the members of the house to be present for the house to convene.
