You Don't Expect An Economy That Was Broken To Be Fixed Within A Short Time — Nyesom Wike

opera.com 4 days ago

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has articulated that the restoration of a faltering economy is an intricate and prolonged endeavour.

Speaking about the current economic conditions under President Bola Tinubu, Wike asserted that it is unrealistic to anticipate swift results given the substantial issues that the new administration has inherited.

In a video posted by Channels Television on their YouTube channel, Wike highlighted that the scope and depth of the economic problems necessitate a thoughtful and sustained approach.

He underscored that President Tinubu's strategies are designed to foster gradual and stable improvements, reflecting a dedication to long-term progress over hasty solutions.

During his address, Wike elaborated on the complexity of the economic challenges faced by Nigeria. He explained that the structural issues and systemic weaknesses that have accumulated over time cannot be resolved overnight.

According to him, expecting immediate turnaround results is impractical and overlooks the intricacies involved in economic recovery.

The minister pointed out that President Tinubu's administration is focused on implementing policies that will yield sustainable growth.

He noted that these policies are being crafted with an eye towards enduring stability and economic resilience rather than short-term gains that could potentially lead to further instability.

Wike stressed the importance of patience and support from the public as the government works towards economic recovery. He acknowledged that, while the process may be slow, it is crucial to remain committed to the strategic plans laid out by the administration.

The ultimate goal, he emphasised, is to build a robust and resilient economy that can withstand future challenges.

He also mentioned that the administration is aware of the hardships faced by many Nigerians and is working tirelessly to address these issues.

However, he reiterated that the depth of the economic challenges requires time and consistent effort to overcome.

Wike called on Nigerians to have faith in the government's long-term vision and to understand that the path to economic recovery is not a quick fix.

He assured that with continued effort and strategic planning, the country will gradually see the benefits of the current administration's policies.

Wike said, "Mr. President knows that there is a problem, and that is why he set the renewed hope agenda. He knows that Nigerians have lost hope, but he believes that we must work hard to bring back hope to Nigerians.

"So when people say Mr. President should not be deceived that Nigerians are suffering, who does not know that Nigerians are suffering? That is no longer a story.

"There is a difference between theory and practice. The President has been making a lot of effort, and you'll know where we are coming from. You don't expect an economy that was broken to be fixed within a short time.''
