"Every Struggle Has a Traitor" Lawyer Paul Mwangi's Massage To Gen Z

During Kenya's First Liberation struggle, a shopkeeper by the name Rawson Macharia testified against the Kapenguria Six, then the leading agitators for Kenya's independence, who were falsely charged with leading the Mau Mau. In March 1952, Rawson Macharia gave false evidence in return for money, land and a scholarship to study in England. The six were jailed for seven years which delayed the independence of Kenya.

During Kenya's Second Liberation struggle, Martin Shikuku, who had made a name for fighting for the common man and had earned the name "people's watchman", and was himself one of the leading agitators for the return to multiparty democracy, went to State House in May 1992 to meet President Daniel arap Moi behind the backs of his fellow freedom fighters. His betrayal wounded the opposition by splitting them further, ensuring Moi won the first multiparty election. It took ten years for the opposition to remove KANU from power.

In this Third Liberation struggle led by Gen Z, it is being said some people have become traitors. There is disappointment around and many people are expressing despair.

Betrayals are always a risk in liberation movements. They often derail the progress of the struggle and ruin the morale of many agitators. But betrayals never kill the liberation spirit and they never defeat the objectives of a determined people". Said Hon. Paul Mwangi.
