Man tells police he killed intimate friend over his inability to return N3m collected from victim

A man who lured his intimate friend to his house and conspired with two others to kill him with big stick and iron has told men of the Kano State Police Command that he snuffed life out of him because he collected the sum of N3 million to secure a non-existent job for him and could not pay back, the command announced on Thursday, May 9, 2024.

The Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who announced the development on his Facebook wall, said the man, whose name was given as Sadiq Zubairu, aged 35 years, was arrested by a team of detectives led by led by the Officer in Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad.

According to the command, during preliminary investigations, the man was said to have confessed that he conspired with two others and lured the victim, who until his death, was his intimate friend, to his house.

He told the detectives when the friend came, he and the two others overpowered him, tied him up, hit him with sticks and sharp iron on his head and other parts of his body until he became motionless. Thereafter, he put the body inside the boot of the car the deceased drove to the house and dumped it by the roadside along the Eastern Bypass.

He also went away with the man's car, a Toyota Corolla 2015 model and his mobile phone.

According to the command, the man further confessed that what led to the killing was that he collected the sum of N3 million from the victim on the pretext that he will secure a job for him. But having realised that he has no means of returning the money, he hired two men, conspired with them, killed him and hid the car inside a garage.

The command added that he had given more useful information to the detectives while a manhunt had been launched for the arrest of other conspirators.
