Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has made a personal call to Dutch-Nigerian striker Joshua Zirkzee, attempting to persuade the talented young forward to join the Red Devils in the summer transfer window.

According to reports from Sky Sport Italia via Football Italia, ten Hag has identified Zirkzee as a primary target for Manchester United's summer transfer plans. Despite the recent signing of Rasmus Højlund from Atalanta, the Premier League outfit is keen on bolstering their attacking options after struggling in the final third last season and the departure of Anthony Martial.

Zirkzee, who currently plays for Bologna, has impressed in Serie A, earning the Serie A Best Young Player award last season. His impressive form has caught the attention of top European clubs, including Manchester United and AC Milan.

Ten Hag's personal call to Zirkzee highlights the seriousness of Manchester United's interest in the 23-year-old striker. The Red Devils are willing to trigger Zirkzee's €40m release clause, which expires in August. However, negotiations are ongoing, with discussions centered around the €15m commission demanded by Zirkzee's agent.

AC Milan remains in the race for Zirkzee's signature, having agreed on contractual terms with the forward. However, their reluctance to pay the agent's commission may give Manchester United an advantage in the transfer race.

As the summer transfer window heats up, Manchester United's pursuit of Zirkzee demonstrates their commitment to strengthening their squad and competing with the best in the Premier League. Will Zirkzee join the Red Devils? Only time will tell.
