According to the report from the Vanguard, Former Governor of Benue State and prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Gabriel Suswam, has expressed that his aspiration for the National Chairmanship position within the party is being challenged by a variety of interests.

Senator Suswam asserted that the outcome of these competing interests will determine his success in securing the position; if they align in his favor, he stands a chance of winning, but if not, his prospects may be dim. Addressing the PDP caucus in Makurdi on Monday ahead of the upcoming Congresses, he emphasized the importance of unity within the party in the state, affirming that party leaders are cohesive despite circulating rumors suggesting otherwise.

He stressed the urgent need to revive the PDP, highlighting the failure of the ruling party to meet the expectations of the Nigerian populace and the resulting economic turmoil. Senator Suswam emphasized the imperative of collective effort and collaboration to restore the party to a position of strength, stating, "We are building a party that is on its knees. And we want the party to stand on its own. So please, let us collaborate among ourselves to do that. I urge us to cooperate."

Regarding his candidacy for the National Chairmanship, Senator Suswam remarked, "Yes, I stepped out to contest for the National Chairmanship of the PDP. That is a national issue and there are various interests. If those interests converge in my favor, I will get it. If my interests overpower me, I will not get it."

Reiterating the need for unity within the party, former Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, reflected on the consequences of disunity during elections and stressed the importance of solidarity in achieving electoral success. He called on party members to set aside personal interests and focus on advancing the collective goals of the party. Chief Ortom emphasized inclusivity and unity, stating, "It is time for every one of us to sheath our interest and stand together and ensure inclusivity in all that we do. Nobody must be undermined no matter what."

In preparation for the Congresses, party leaders have committed to prioritizing the wishes of members from various localities and have established an internal Dispute Resolution Mechanism to address grievances amicably. The ultimate goal is to unite the party and reclaim political power in a unified manner.
