Manchester United is reportedly considering selling defender Harry Maguire amidst interest from Serie A, according to talkSPORT.

According to Manchester Evening News, the England international, who relinquished his captaincy to Bruno Fernandes last summer, was previously linked with a departure from Old Trafford. Despite interest, the 31-year-old opted to reject an offer from West Ham United, choosing to remain with the Red Devils and fight for his place.

Maguire faced competition and battled injuries last season, resulting in sporadic appearances. Nevertheless, he managed to impress with four goals and two assists from 31 outings.

With Maguire now entering the final year of his contract, talkSPORT suggests United might entertain offers from Serie A clubs.

United's current defensive lineup includes Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, and Willy Kambwala alongside Maguire, following Raphael Varane's departure on a free transfer. Jonny Evans' contract expired on June 30, and discussions for a new short-term deal are ongoing.

Looking ahead to next season, United is reportedly targeting Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite and Bayern's Matthijs de Ligt as potential center-back additions. If these signings materialize, it could prompt the departure of at least one current defender, with Maguire frequently linked to an exit. However, the focus may shift towards offloading Lindelof instead.

Maguire, who received praise from manager Erik ten Hag for his performance at Fulham last season, has a 12-month extension clause in his contract. Meanwhile, Lindelof's contract has already been extended, expiring in June 2025, with no immediate plans for renewal talks.

Speculation suggests Lindelof could be the likelier candidate to depart, with Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho reportedly interested in a reunion with the Swedish defender.
