PDP has failed Rivers people, says Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Thursday, took a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party, saying the the party had failed the people of the state.

He stated that the party leadership had not played the role expected of it since the political crisis began.

Fubara stated this while hosting a delegation of the Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation, led by its Chairman, Senator Orji Uzo Kalu, to Government House in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

Fubara said the state was currently relying on what it could do based on truth instead of party politics, adding that the state would no longer be held back by party affiliation, but would instead stand firm on its own soil to defend democracy.

Nigeria will overcome current socio-economic challenges, says Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed optimism that Nigeria will soon overcome the current socio-economic challenges facing the people of this country.

Jonathan stated this in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, on Friday, while formally declaring open the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Yenagoa Law Week 2024 with the theme: ‘The Legal Profession In A Time Of Socio-Economic Uncertainty’.

The ex-president represented by a first-class monarch in Bayelsa, King Collins Daniel, noted that the federal government is doing its best to salvage the situation.

Over 248,000 women offered family planning – LASG

The Lagos State Government revealed. on Thursday, that 248,962 women were accessing Family Planning services from about 257 trained community pharmacists, and patent and proprietary medicine vendors.

The Family Planning Coordinator, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr Adeleye Latifat, made this known at the Colossus Hotel, Ikeja.

She also noted that over 11,000 children were treated for Cholera between 2017 and 2024.

She said in six years, 11,475 children under the age of five years were treated with ORS and Zinc while 2,812 children under the age of five who had Pneumonia were given Amoxicillin DT during treatment.

Endure road construction pains, Niger tells residents

The Niger State Government has called on residents of the State capital to endure the hardship and discomfort caused by the reconstruction of most of the roads in Minna, the state capital as part of the urban renewal programme of the governor, Mohammed Bago.

With the simultaneous construction of most of the roads in the capital, road users and commuters are compelled to find alternative routes to go about their daily routines. Therefore, this has put much strain on their ability to navigate the various destination as well as their economy as the cost of transportation has jumped by more than 100 per cent.

The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development Suleiman Umar made the call on Wednesday during a press conference to update the residents of the state of the extent the ongoing work has gone and to appeal to them to endure the difficulties that the road diversions have caused.

The commissioner who was joined by his permanent Secretary, Hassan Etsu and directors in the ministry noted that the State has not witnessed any major construction for a long time until now that Bago has come to transform the state through roads reconstructions and other infrastructure developments.
