The Fourth Round of the 2022–23 FA Cup competition saw Arsenal suffer a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in a tightly contested match. Despite the Gunners having numerous chances, the final result was a result of two mistakes made by Mikel Arteta.

The first mistake that Arteta made was with his team selection. With the match being a cup game, Arteta opted to rest a number of key players, including Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli. This decision left Arsenal short of attacking options and made it difficult for them to break down a well-organised City side.

The second mistake that Arteta made was with his substitutions. Despite Arsenal needing a goal to get back into the game, Arteta removed Thomas Partey for Sambi Lokonga in his first substitution, which exposed Granit Xhaka as the holding midfielder. This exposed his side, and they lost the midfield battle.

Ultimately, Arteta's mistakes cost Arsenal a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
