FCT: I thank Tinubu for appointing you Minister – Akpabio to Wike

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has hailed President Bola Tinubu for appointing Nyesom Wike as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

Akpabio spoke during the flag-off of the construction of the Kugbo Bus and Taxi Terminal in the Karu District of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

He said the decision to construct bus terminals, has also shown the minister’s desire to not only construct roads, but also provide services that will make life more comfortable for FCT residents.

He said the terminal will serve as a hub that will facilitate the efficient movement of people, ensure traffic decongestion and improve the overall quality of life for FCT residents.

Flood kills 9, sacks 4000 households in Yobe

Nine people, have died and about 5,000 households have been sacked by floods across 30 communities in Yobe State.

The State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, disclosed this via its official Facebook page on Tuesday.

According to the humanitarian agency, the incidences, were mostly due to heavy windstorms and rainfall recorded across affected communities in 12 local government areas of the state.

“Based on our findings, a total of 4,976 households with about 10,845 individuals across 12 LGAs of Yunusari, Nguru, Nangere, Gujba, Damaturu, Fika, Bade, Bursari, Yusufari, Geidam, Machina and Karasuwa were affected recently by the disaster,” it posted.

Court remands 5 herdsmen over alleged kidnapping in Benue

A Makurdi Chief Magistrates Court on Tuesday, remanded five Fulani herdsmen at the correctional centre in Makurdi for alleged kidnapping, criminal conspiracy and other crimes.

The five suspects, Saleh Hassan, Yakubu Kanje, Inusa Idris, Yusuf Ibrahim, and Yahuza Idris, who reside in the Keana and Awe local government areas of Nasarawa State, were also docked for alleged acts of terrorism and culpable homicide.

When the case was called, the prosecuting officer, Inspector Jonah Uletu, reading from the First Information Report, told the court that the police in Otukpo Local Government Area, led by CSP Terfa Njoghul, arrested the suspects following a report from one Silas Onyilo on June 13, 2024, about armed Fulani men dressed in army uniform.

The prosecution, further alleged that the accused persons blocked Otukpo Federal Highway at Ojano Village of Ohimini Local Government Area, robbed passengers of two Benue Links commercial buses of their phones, money and other valuables at gunpoint, shot and killed on the spot one of the drivers, Gabriel Okpale, and moved over 20 passengers to Oglewu forest, where they held them hostage, raped one female passenger and collected a ransom of N18 million before releasing the victims.

Delta Chief Judge grants freedom to four inmates

Delta State Chief Judge, Justice Tessy Diai, has discharged and released four inmates from Warri Correctional Centre, Delta State.

The inmates are Jeremiah Okotiebor, Odotimade Lylon, Umaru Abubakar and Peter Okru.

The inmates were released, during the second quarter visit to prisons by Justice Diai.

Speaking during the visit, Justice Diai said that a total of 360 warrants were reviewed, and four were granted freedom.
