Rivers State Governor, Fubara, has urged for speedy investigation and trial of suspects to tackle prison congestion. He emphasized that effective institutions are crucial to ensuring timely trials, reducing awaiting trial inmates, and alleviating financial burdens. Fubara stressed that delayed trials and wrongful arrests contribute to prison overcrowding, highlighting the need for proper evaluations and vocational training for smooth reintegration of ex-convicts.

According to Vanguard News, the Governor commended the National Assembly for focusing on correctional centre issues and acknowledged his administration's achievements in reducing crime. He committed to continued efforts in addressing the needs of Rivers people and ensuring institutional effectiveness.

Fubara's call for urgent investigation and trial of suspects aims to address prison overcrowding, promote effective justice systems, and enhance social reintegration of ex-convicts. This move is expected to reduce the financial burden on the government and ensure that correctional centers in the country are decongested.

The Governor's statement came during a courtesy visit from the House of Representatives Committee on Reformatory Institutions, led by Hon. Chinedu Ogah, at Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday.
