Sheffield United Triumphs 2-1 Over Swansea to Return to Top of Championship

Sheffield United staged a comeback to defeat 10-man Swansea City 2-1 at the Swansea.com Stadium, returning to the top of the Championship. The match saw a spirited effort from Swansea, who had the upper hand in the first half, but Chris Wilder’s side capitalized on a red card to Harry Darling early in the second period and secured the three points with a late penalty.

Swansea took the lead in the seventh minute through Florian Bianchini, who pounced on a rebound after Michael Cooper saved Ben Cabango’s header. Swansea continued to press, and Myles Peart-Harris was denied by Cooper, while Liam Cullen missed a chance to double the advantage.

Sheffield United struggled in the first half, with their attacks lacking potency. However, they found their rhythm right after the break. Rhian Brewster, who had not scored since October 2022, equalized in the 47th minute with a sharp finish from Femi Seriki’s cross. Three minutes later, Darling was sent off for a reckless challenge on Brewster, reducing Swansea to 10 men for the remainder of the game.

Despite being a player down, Swansea kept fighting, but Sheffield United took control. After a scramble in the box, Harrison Burrows converted a penalty in the 68th minute following a foul by Josh Key on Tyrese Campbell. Swansea attempted to respond, but they couldn’t find an equalizer.

The win saw Sheffield United leapfrog Leeds United in the promotion race, while Swansea’s poor form continued, with just one point from their last four matches.
