The former minister of health, Professor Folorunso Adewole Isaac, said he had a positive experience working under then-military head of state General Muhammadu Buhari, even though Buhari sent him into exile in the 1980s for his unionist activities. Soon after, Buhari became a civilian president and appointed Isaac as minister of health.

Isaac talked about the anxiety and uncertainty he experienced during his exile in a recent Tribune article. He indicated that he went into hiding to find safety, but he eventually made his way back.

He said that, in contrast to his earlier impressions, he found Buhari to be intelligent, reliable, and supportive.

"I had to flee away by some ways that I will never expose to anyone," Isaac added, quoting Buhari's regime, which threatened to kill us or leave us alive.
