According to the reports from Vanguard,Dr. Ayelaje Joseph, a prominent Lagos doctor and Managing Director of Holyfill Hospital, is facing serious allegations of removing a woman’s womb without her consent. The incident reportedly took place at his hospital located in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.

The victim, Mrs. Okeafor Suzan, had initially visited the hospital seeking treatment for fibroids. However, to her shock, she later discovered that her womb had been extracted without her knowledge or permission.

In response to these accusations, Dr. Ayelaje Joseph claimed that Mrs. Suzan had given her consent for the procedure, citing her past pregnancies as a basis for his decision.

Mrs. Suzan, in a detailed account of her ordeal, shared how she had sought medical advice from Dr. Joseph in February 2024 regarding her fibroid condition. Despite her explicit refusal for a hysterectomy due to a single symptomatic fibroid, she alleged that the doctor proceeded with the procedure without her informed consent.

Her account further revealed that after the surgery, when she inquired about the removed fibroid, she was simply informed by Dr. Joseph that her womb had been extracted during the operation. Shocked by this revelation, Mrs. Suzan later underwent a scan which confirmed the absence of her womb, leading her to assert that no prior counseling or consent was obtained for such a drastic surgery.

In her statement, she asserted, "I did not request the removal of my womb, and I did not sign any consent form."

The case has sparked outrage and concern within the medical community and among the general public, raising questions about informed consent, medical ethics, and patient rights in healthcare settings.

The incident remains under investigation as both sides present their accounts of the events, shedding light on the complexities surrounding medical procedures and the critical importance of transparent communication and patient autonomy in medical practice.
