Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called on the people of the southeast to continue to support the administration of President Bola Tinubu, saying that doing so would benefit the zone immensely.

A statement signed by his chief press secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, quote the deputy speaker as making the call at a southeast stakeholder meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital on Sunday.

The deputy speaker spoke of the commitment of the Tinubu government to reposition the South East.

The Deputy Governor of Kano State and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Aminu Abdussalam, on Sunday, expressed confidence in the calibre and quality of individuals mandated to oversee local government activities in the state.

Gwarzo, according to a press statement, issued and signed by the office of the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, declared his confidence while inaugurating a three-day orientation retreat in Kaduna State, focusing on the “Operational Guidelines for the Kano State Local Government Interim Management Committee.”

Zimbabwe launches hearings over Mugabe-era massacre

Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Sunday launched a long-awaited process of reconciliation over notorious 1980s massacres by government troops that claimed tens of thousands of lives.

Survivors will be interviewed in a series of hearings opening the way for possible compensation, in a bid to settle longstanding grievances and tensions.

“Today is a pivotal moment in our history. This is the day where we demonstrate that as a country, we are capable of resolving our disputes as Zimbabweans, regardless of their complexity or magnitude,” Mnangagwa said in the southern African country’s second-largest city, Bulawayo.

Minister receives freed journalists abducted in Kaduna, commends NSA

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Sunday July 14, received the two-Kaduna based journalists who were abducted from their homes in the outskirts of Kaduna last weekend.

Receiving the two journalists, AbdulGafar Alabelewe of The Nation newspapers and AbdulRaheem Aodu of Blueprint newspapers, from the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the minister commended security agencies for the speedy recovery of the victims.

The two journalists were released along with Alabelewe’s wife and two children.
