19-year-old teenager electrocuted while attempting to steal cables from transformer

A teenager has been electrocuted while attempting to steal cables from a transformer at an area in Enugu State and his body has been deposited in a mortuary, the state police command announced on Friday, June 28, 2024.

The state police command, which disclosed the development on its X handle, said the teenager, whose name was given as Nwode Sunday, aged 19 years, resident of Ngwo Camp 2, Coal Camp, Enugu, died while he attempted to steal the electrical cables from a transformer at the area of his abode.

It was gathered that his lifeless body was discovered at the transformer scene on Friday morning, with reports indicating that he might have attempted to steal the cables late in the night.

The command wrote: "A 19-year-old suspected transformer vandal, identified as Nwode Sunday, of Ngwo Camp 2, Coal Camp, Enugu, has been electrocuted while vandalizing electrical cables of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) transformer at the same location, in the early hours of today, June 28, 2024.

"The lifeless body of the suspect was taken to the hospital where he was confirmed dead and the corpse was deposited in the mortuary for preservation and further investigative actions."
