APC Chieftain Says Nigerians Are Hungry, President Tinubu Should Address High Cost Of Food Items

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has allegedly appealed to President Bola Tinubu to address the current high cost of affording food items in Nigeria as a matter of urgency.

According to Daily Trust, Oyintiloye who is a former Lawmaker told newsmen on Sunday, 7rh of July, 2024, in Osogbo, the Capital of Osun State, that Nigerians were hungry, and that their standard of living is now below the poverty line.

The ruling party Chieftain also reportedly pointed out that scores of Nigerians have been disillusioned and were uncertain how they would get the next meal as a result of extreme economic hardship.

Speaking further, he also advised that President Tinubu should not ignore the prediction made by the United Nations that 82 million of Nigerians which is up to 64 percent of the population of the country may experience starvation by 2030.

The erstwhile Lawmaker recalled that the National Bureau of Statistics data made it known that the rate of food inflation in the country has hit a record high of 40.66 percent in May, 2024, thereby surpassing the 40.53 percent of April.

The former member of the defunct All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council proceeded to lament that the common household food items were getting out of the reach of the common man as a result of the increase in their prices.

He said that, albeit the abundance of natural and human resources that the country is endowed with, successive governments failed to rule productively.

In continuation, he asserted that President Tinubu is no doubt doing everything possible to set things right through different Interventions.
