Former Head of Special Presidential Investigation, Chief Okoi Obono, has expressed disappointment at the former president Muhammadu Buhari for unveiling corruption in his administration.
Obono who recently expressed his views on the "Mic on Podcast", yesterday, recalled that that several petitition was written complaining that an alleged fraud of 38 billion that was recovered from former acting Governor of Central, wasn't paid to bank owners.
Obno said he was suprised to hear that Folashodun Adebisi (who was then the acting governor of CBN) was appointed by the former president Muhammadu Buhari as Deputy Governor of CBN. According to Obono, he wrote a memo informing the president that the latter he appointed as DG was under investigation for alleged fraud. He revealed that the president asked him to let go of the case and investigate other cases.
He, however, noted that he was disappointed because he wasn't given the support from the president to carryout his duties.
He said, "There was this issue of stamp duties and some people have written, school of banking honors, it's an NGO in the banking sector. They had written out a petition saying that the bank had recovered over 38 trillion over the years for stamp duties and that this money had not been remitted okay. And they mentioned the former acting Governor of the Central Bank, you know when Emefiele was removed, an acting Governor was appointed. That man was the managing director of the Nigerian Banking System, that is a firm established by bankers in Nigeria you know".
"So they mentioned him and shortly after that, there was an announcement that he has been appointed as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, so I wrote a memo informing President Muhammadu Buhari that how can you appoint somebody who we are investigating as Deputy Governor. So those were the two memo's I gave to ADC, so he kept it for one month and then one evening, he called me and said 'M 3rdr Obla ple ase I want to see you', so i went to the Villa and then he handed over those memo's to me and told me that the case is too hot for him".
