Chief Tony Okocha, Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Rivers State APC, shared his perspective on recent events at the Rivers State House of Assembly following the Court of Appeal's decision. He believes the ruling indicates that pro-Wike lawmakers still control the Assembly, while those loyal to Rotimi Amaechi disagree.

Okocha praised the Court of Appeal for its judgment, which overturned a previous order and reinstated lawmakers who had defected from the PDP to the APC. This legal conflict underscores the political divisions in Rivers State, with different factions vying for power.

Recall that on Thursday, the Court of Appeal in Abuja rejected an ex parte order issued by the Rivers State High Court that had blocked Martin Amaewhule from assuming the role of Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The appeal panel sided with Amaewhule and 24 others in their appeal against Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo and two other individuals. Additionally, the Court of Appeal overturned the high court's ruling that prevented lawmakers supportive of Governor Wike from participating in the Assembly following their switch from the PDP to the APC.

According to Punch, Okocha said, “The grey areas that have led Rivers into a litany of litigation have been sorted out. Justice was served. The reasoning adduced by the venerated Justice of the Court of Appeal, under which stood the bedrock of their unanimous decision, is very sound and unimpeachable.”
