A wave of outrage has swept across Southern Nigeria as Senators from the region have strongly condemned the devastating suicide bombing attacks that rocked Tashan Mararaba, Gwoza town, Borno State on June 29, 2024.

According to the report from Vanguard, The heinous attack claimed the lives of at least 18 innocent individuals and left many more injured, sending shockwaves of grief throughout the nation.


The Southern Senators Forum, comprising Senators Mikhail Adetokunbo Abiru (APC-Lagos East), Barinada Mpigi (PDP-Rivers South East), and Asuquo Ekpenyong (APC-Cross River South), issued a statement condemning the barbaric act in its strongest terms.

The statement emphasized that these acts of terrorism serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges facing Nigeria.


"We are deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence and our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and the entire affected community," the statement read. "Such atrocities serve as a grim reminder of the urgent need for a collective, collaborative, and robust response to terrorism in our country.

We urge the federal government and all security agencies to redouble their efforts in combating terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians."


The Forum also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his swift condemnation of the attacks and his administration's commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice. The Senators extended their deepest condolences to the families who lost loved ones and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.


In a show of solidarity, the Southern Senators Forum stood with the Northern Senators Forum, the government, and the people of Borno State during this time of grief. The Forum reiterated its commitment to working with all stakeholders to achieve lasting peace and security across Nigeria.
