Shehu Sani, a former Senator, has commented on his strained relationship with former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
In a recent report by The Sun, Sani explained that he was unable to offer advice to El-Rufai because they were political rivals for eight years. He mentioned that while El-Rufai did not demolish his house, he did far worse things to him. Sani described incidents where his home and office were attacked by thugs, and claimed that El-Rufai attempted to frame him for murder and questioned his academic credentials.

As per The Sun, He remarked, "Which one is better? To demolish your house or to try to frame you with murder? Is it not better to demolish your house? So, this is what he has done. My house was attacked; my office was attacked by thugs. For such a person, there is nothing that person has not done on me, investigating my academic credentials, trying to frame me up for murder and then, at a certain time we were having a press conference, armed thugs were sent to the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Kaduna"
