Yahaya Bello Placed on Watchlist in Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria

Former Kogi governor Yahaya Bello has been placed on a watchlist in Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria by INTERPOL at the request of the EFCC. Bello faces charges of money laundering, breach of trust, and misappropriation of N80.2 billion. He failed to appear in court multiple times and is believed to be hiding in the Kogi State Government House. The EFCC is intensifying efforts to prevent him from fleeing and secure his appearance before the Federal High Court in Abuja on July 17.

Mass Protests in Varsities

Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) have initiated mass protests due to unpaid salaries and unresolved grievances. The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of NASU and SSANU, dissatisfied with government negotiations, plans nationwide demonstrations starting with a one-day protest on July 9. This will culminate in a national protest in Abuja on July 18, with further plans for an indefinite strike pending resolution. The unions cite government insensitivity and lack of commitment in addressing their concerns as reasons for the planned actions.

Flood: Lagos issues 48-hr eviction notice to Gbagada-Bariga channel squatters

The Lagos State Government issued a 48-hour eviction notice to illegal property owners and squatters along the Gbagada-Bariga Channel. The notice, announced by the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, targets those obstructing water flow. The eviction aims to remove structures causing flooding in the area. Last week's heavy rainfall had severely disrupted activities, highlighting the urgency of this action.

Tinubu to mop up over 20million out-of-school children, upgrade educational standard

President Bola Tinubu's administration launched a project to address education and out-of-school children. Announced by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Tanko Yusuf Sununu, the DOTS Project focuses on data collection, reintegrating over 20 million out-of-school children, improving teachers' welfare, and equipping youths with essential skills. The initiative aims to enhance educational quality and inclusiveness. Additionally, new NECO state offices were inaugurated to improve exam administration in Nigeria.
