In a report by Daily Trust, Muttaka Darma highlighted the significant achievement of the late President Yar'Adua, who notably became the first Nigerian head of state to publicly declare his assets.

Darma noted that Yar'Adua's action was a manifestation of his pre-election pledge, aimed at setting a precedent for transparency in governance and deterring corruption among Nigerian politicians.

Yar'Adua disclosed assets totaling N856,452,892, including N19 million belonging to his wife, along with liabilities amounting to N88,793,269.77. This move was part of his broader commitment to fostering accountability and ethical conduct in public service.

Additionally, in August 2007, Yar'Adua's administration introduced a comprehensive seven-point agenda aimed at addressing Nigeria's developmental challenges.

Among the objectives outlined was the aspiration to elevate Nigeria's economic status, with the goal of positioning the country among the world's 20 largest economies by the year 2020.

According to what Muttaqha Darma said in the report by Daily Trust, "Late Yar’Adua made history, becoming the first Nigerian President to publicly disclose his assets.

This was in fulfilment of a pre-election promise he made, and he intended to set an example for other Nigerian politicians so as to discourage corruption.

He said he had N856,452,892 in assets, N19 million of which belonged to his wife. He also had N88,793,269.77 in liabilities.

In August 2007, his administration unveiled a popular seven-point agenda to be the focal point of the administration’s solution to developmental challenges. It was also a stated goal of elevating Nigeria to be among the 20 largest economies in the world by 2020."
