The Times of Israel reports that this morning, a roadside bomb strike claimed the life of 22-year-old Israeli soldier Sgt. First Class (res.) Yehuda Geto in the West Bank's Nur Shams refugee camp.

In addition, one of the Duvdevan commando unit's soldiers suffered critical injuries in the event. Geto was driving the Panther armored personnel carrier (APC) carrying the soldiers when the explosive detonated.

Other Duvdevan troops had left the APC for a separate on foot operation at the time of the attack, therefore the area was not one where the army expected explosive devices to be present.

The APC was crippled by the blast and was subsequently taken out of Nur Shams. An investigation by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) revealed that a large number of explosives were employed in the explosion. Following the event, there was an attempt to launch a drone strike against a group of gunmen in the area while the IDF was removing the soldiers.

Nevertheless, the missile did not explode, and some gunmen, attempting to control it, unintentionally set off an explosion that killed a Palestinian woman who was nearby. Moreover, the Duvdevan forces killed a Palestinian gunman who attempted to fire at them.

Two fatalities, one of which involved a mother and the other a kid, were recorded in Nur Shams, according to the health ministry of the Palestinian Authority. This unfortunate incident comes after a recent attack in the Jenin area, where Palestinian Islamic Jihad operatives detonated bombs against Israeli military vehicles during a raid, resulting in the death of a soldier and the injuries of sixteen others.
