According to the report from the Sun News, A socio-political group operating under the umbrella of the All Progressives Congress Northern Elites Development has announced that it has uncovered several schemes that triggered a youth demonstration against the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Headquarters in Abuja on Friday.
Alhaji Hashimu Ado Danmalam, who spoke to journalists in Sokoto on Saturday on behalf of the group, revealed that an unnamed All Progressives Congress legislator from Zamfara State is collaborating with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) government in the state to incite protesters against the Minister of State.
The group has condemned the actions of the APC lawmaker, labeling them as “unnecessary, sabotage, and political intolerance” with the aim of fostering discord and division for the advancement of Zamfara.
Danmalam stated, "All these sponsored campaigns of calumny and mischief against Minister Bello Matawalle are being sponsored by those who are not happy with his performances and defense against the perceived political enemies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the region."
He further added, “It is clear that the Honourable Minister of Defense State is targeted because of his commitment to the success of President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda, and publicly giving these perceived enemies of the President sleepless nights."
The group highlighted that the grudge held by the APC member against the Presidency, particularly regarding his non-support of the endorsed candidate for the speakership, fuels the campaign against Minister Matawalle.
According to the group, the protesting youths demanding the Minister's prosecution by the EFCC are largely unfamiliar with the intricacies of Zamfara politics and the intentions of their sponsors, as they have never been to the state.
In response to these revelations, the group called upon the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, to launch immediate investigations into the matter and extend support to the EFCC in its inquiries regarding any political suspects involved.
