Court bars Soun, kingmakers from removing Chief Imam

Justice K.B. Olawoyin of the Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso has barred the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye, and the kingmakers from removing the Chief Imam, Sheik Teliat Yunus Ayilara.

The Chief Imam and the Soun have been in a supremacy battle. The Registered Trustees of Ogbomoso Muslim Youths Forum sued the Soun and the Soun-In-Council over the planned removal. The court ruled to restrain the Soun and his council from removing or interfering with the Chief Imam until the hearing on July 1, 2024.


Turkey Deports 103 Nigerians

The Federal Government of Nigeria has received 103 Nigerians deported from Turkey due to migration issues like expired visas and irregular migration. The deportees, all males, were expected to be 110. Some deportees allege unjust treatment by Turkish authorities, including forced termination of permits and prolonged detention. The Nigerian government, through various agencies, has committed to supporting the returnees and investigating their claims, including the seizure of their passports. The returnees were provided with dignity kits, starter packs, and stipends to assist their reintegration.


One dies in Third Mainland Bridge accident

A fatal accident occurred on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Saturday morning, involving a Mini Truck and a Toyota Camry, resulting in one confirmed death. The accident, caused by excessive speeding during heavy rain, also left three others injured who were rescued at the scene. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) responded quickly to the incident near the Unilag waterfront. Despite campaigns to enforce speed limits, violations persist. LASTMA and State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit officials managed the aftermath, and condolences were extended to the deceased's family.


Troops nab 47 rail track vandals in Kaduna

The 1 Division Nigerian Army in Kaduna arrested 47 suspected rail track vandals on June 26 during a routine patrol along Kakau Daji-Anguwan Ayaba. The suspects were caught loading two trucks with vandalized rail tracks. They claimed they were employed by Alhaji Babawo, who is currently at large. The suspects were profiled at the 312 Artillery Regiment Kaduna, and interviewed to determine their involvement. Some of the stolen tracks were found concealed in a nearby bush. The suspects were handed over to the Nigerian Railway Corporation for further investigation and prosecution. The army commended the troops for their professional conduct and urged continued efforts to secure the rail tracks from future vandalism.
