On 14th July, 2024 the Nigerian Minister of State for Agriculture, Aliyu Abdullahi during an interview with Channels Television while reacting to the current economic hardship and scarcity of food facing the country, revealed that they realized over the past few years that the Nigerian farmers have not been taking their dry season agriculture seriously.

According to Channels Television, the Nigerian Minister of State for Agriculture, Aliyu Abdullahi said "You will see a lot of programs trying to dampen [reduce prices] the situation. Agriculture has a time frame. Now, a lot of production is ongoing. We are in the rainy season and if you look at the fields, there is a lot of cropping going on. Those croppings are not food. They will only translate to food after three months. So, until then, this story you are talking about will continue. We realized over the past few years that we have not been taking our dry season agriculture seriously."

If you could recall, some days ago the Nigerian Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari said that the administration of the President of Nigeria, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu would import two hundred and fifty thousand metric tons of wheat and two hundred and fifty thousand metric tons of maize, and the semi-processed commodities would be supplied to small-scale processors and millers across the country in their effort to tackle the current food scarcity facing the country.
